Z-Man Games have announced a range of Mini Expansions, now available on their webstore.
A few days ago, we got word of the Terraforming Mars: Prelude expansion, which added little more than a few more cards, but changed the game fairly substantially. This seems to be the reasoning behind Z-Man's new promo products - simple set-up, with big consequences.
First on the list is the Terra Mystica mini expansion, which adds four new town tiles, one scoring tile and a new bonus card. Each faction will also gain special terrain tiles, which enable you players to gain new bonuses and abilities.
Another addition is A Feast For Odin Mini Expansion. This expansion brings two new exploration boards; the archipelago of Lofoten, and the wealthy continent of Tierra del Fuego. Each of these will bring more bonuses and opportunities for income.
Also on the list is The Voyage of Marco Polo: The New Characters, which adds four characters to the game, each with their own unique abilities. It also adds the new 'gift' mechanic, which allows players to gain bonus goods and extra actions.
Beyond Baker Street Mini Expansion, which allows the players to use two new character cards. Players can become Holmes' companion, Dr. John Watson, or his brother, Mycroft.
The two more mini expansions include Carcassonne: The School and Carcassonne The Festival. The first of these has players beuild roads to the school and gaining points for teachers whenever anything or anyone scores points.
The latter of these expansions brings with it the ability to withdraw or add meeples, with the placement of a festival tile. You can then decide if your meeple should join the festival, or move to add to the workforce elsewhere.
The final mini expansion is Sylvion: Below Ground, which turns the earth itself against the players. This pack adds sixteen new terrain cards, which occupy the battlefield. These must be revealed when you play a Tree or Fountain card
When flipped, these terrain cards will reveal either The Swallower or The Owl. The Swallower will destroy what you palced, whereas the owl will allow you to draw two cards from the Defender deck.
I'm not sure how these mini expansions will be received, as they seem like micro-transactions for board games. One thing's for sure, there are plenty of options for expanding your Z-Man Games, available on the webstore.
