Pandasaurus Games have announced a stand-alone, two player spin-off to Dinosaur Island, which is aptly titled Duelosaur Island
Ian Moss has teamed up with the designer of the original Dinosaur Island, Jon Gilmour, to create all new mechanics for this sequel. Kwanchai Moriya and Peter Wocken have returned to provide graphic design.
President of Pandasaurus Games, Nathan McNair, commented:
Duelosaur reuses some of the mechanics of Dinosaur Island, but brings a new hand-management and tableau-building engine. The press release talks about an "I cut, you choose" dice-drafting mechanic too.
This dice drafting mechanic utilises the DNA dice from Dinosaur Island which creates the dinosaurs and requires you to manage your threat level. "I cut, you choose" allows the first player to assign strong or weak bonuses to the dice , but allows the second player to choose first.
The hand management mechanism is also unique, as each card can be used to create dinosaurs, build attractions, or take certain actions if discarded. Attractions will provide VP but dinosaurs will bring in more visitors.
Duelosaur Island introduces 5 new DNA dice, which can be combined with the original Dinosaur Island for a customisable experience. For example, the security symbol on the dice will increase the security level instantly.
The game has been in development for a year and is now in the process of playtesting. It is planned for release this year at an MSRP of $34.95
