Renegade Games have announced that Raiders of the North Sea will be receiving two expansions on the 17th January. These expansions are called Hall of Heroes and Fields of Fame.
The 'North Sea' trilogy consists of three mechanically different games that can be joined into a campaign by the Runesaga expansion. Shipwrights of the North Sea, Raiders of the North Sea and Explorers of the North Sea.
Raiders of the North Sea is the second game in the series of games, set in the middle of the Viking Age. The aim of 'Raiders' is to win the favour of the Chieftain by raiding settlements for loot. It plays 2-4 players for approximately an hour.
Hall of Heroes will add new adventurers and raid quests, who have been attracted by the building of a mead hall. The mead will be collected and used in battle to embolden the vikings warriors. The expansion also builds on mechanics such as gaining resources, acquiring crew and accumulating Victory Points.
Conversely, Fields of Fame, the Jarls have sought to protect themselves from the Viking raids by coming together in settlements. Players will need to either kill the Karls for Victory points, or subdue and recruit them.
A loss in battle will result in your Vikings fleeing from the settlement. This will then cause you to lose Fame or Victory Points, as your fellow Vikings witness your cowardice. More Victory Points can be achieved by sending out Overpowered crews in battle.
Both expansions can only be played with the Raiders of the North Sea base game, and increase the maximum number of players to 5. They both extend the play time to approximately 90 minutes.
