In a fairly unique move within the board game industry, Renegade Studios have announced that they will be releasing both Dokmus and its accompanying expansion pack Dokmus: Return of Erefal together at the end of this month.
Dokmus is the name of the island, where the game is set, represented by eight double-sided map pieces. The game begins by placing map pieces in a 3x3 grid, whichever side up you choose, with the middle square empty.
'Guardian' cards are then drafted by the players to protect the island. The guardians will assist one player each. Each card also has a special ability and a turn order. Most importantly your cards will allow you to move your tokens, or gain first player marker for next turn.
Each turn presents the players with three tokens to use. These tokens will allow you to spread influence, travel into dangerous terrain or sacrifice to the volcano. Victory Points are awarded for each time you discover temple or ruins.
The expansion introduces us to Erefel, one of the original guardians of Dokmus. This guardian was responsible for expeditions to the island, by crossing harsh terrains like turbulent rivers and dark forests. After neglecting his post, Ereful was banished from the island.
Now Ereful must reclaim his post by assisting the expeditions once again. He has brought with him the technilogical advancements from the advanced world such as strong roads, which survive the elements. Dokmus Return of Ereful adds the character with new abilities to the base game.
